What are Corporate / Business Investigations?

Corporate Investigations are investigations conducted on a business and its employees to uncover corporate crimes such as theft, abuse of working hours, bribery, and fraudulent claims.

Abuse of Non-compete Agreements: My team and I have handled many cases of employees  violating Non-Compete Agreements. Our Miami investigators have caught employees selling trade secrets or stealing company clients after starting their own businesses. We captured all the evidence on video and submitted detailed reports to our client, resulting in a favorable court decision for our client.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); we have also had cases of employees pretending to be ill only to take vacations or attend to their second jobs.

Theft is the most common problem many businesses face in Miami, Florida. It takes many forms, such as misappropriation of funds and theft of items. All of this causes the company financial loss and, in some cases, bankruptcy.

Misuse of Company’s Assets: Some employees are fond of misusing company assets such as cars. We have the knowledge and skill to handle these cases and expose the employees who use company resources for personal gain.

Abuse of Working Hours: This is another area where employees are dishonest. They either sleep on the job or delay working, which affects a business’s overall productivity.

Corruption: When investigating corruption in Miami, private investigators can uncovered bribery, illegal foreign exchange, and even corporate fraud. Those in management sometimes engage in dishonest practices, which harm a company financially and even its reputation.

Types of Corporate / Business Investigations in Miami, Florida

Violation of Non-compete Agreements

Did your former employee break your trust? A non-compete agreement is a contract that your employees sign not to disclose or abuse your trade secrets when they leave the company or organization.

Our Miami investigators have helped countless businesses uncover dishonest employees who violated these agreements. Some of these employees shared confidential information about their companies or poached clients of their former employment once they started their business. With our sophisticated surveillance techniques, we have secured the video evidence that was so desperately needed.

Business owners need to understand their rights under these agreements and take necessary actions to protect their companies. This will ensure a fair, competitive environment and hold the violators of these agreements accountable. I have dealt with cases like this before, and here is one of them:

Theft of Clients: A Personal Experience

I remember my Miami investigations team and I working on a case of a senior salesperson. He was previously trusted but decided to quit his job and start his own company. After some time, my client suspected that the salesperson contacted his clients to lure them away. To verify these claims, we filmed the former employee from a distance and discreetly documented his interactions, noting who he met and what he discussed.

It was sad to see how this individual undermined his previous employer. With detailed video evidence, we had a case that showed the theft of clients and the violation of the non-compete agreement.

The evidence we had gathered allowed my client to take appropriate legal action to protect his business.

Theft

Almost every business has dealt with theft; a good example is Home Depot in Miami-Dade. This leads to financial loss. They may have dealt with the theft of physical items such as company assets, financial theft, or even time theft.

Tangible Theft

Some employees steal physical items from their employers, such as computers, food, and other goods the company might be dealing with. Such theft leads to financial loss for a company. Employees who steal these items are smart at hiding what they steal, so it’s wise to employ the services of a private investigator to uncover the thief.

Embezzlement

This type of theft involves the stealing of a business’s funds. It is also hard to trace, as some people know how to alter figures and accounts to cover their tracks. A private investigator who is trained in forensic accounting can track down the funds.

Time Theft

Not all thefts are physical. Time theft involves false reporting, where employees demand to be paid for the time they didn’t work. If you suspect your employees are stealing from you, our Miami private investigation agency.

With our advance surveillance methods, we can gather the needed evidence so you can deal with him or her.

A Case We Solved

We were contacted once by a company who wanted to know if their delivery driver was utilizing the time he was on field appropriately.

After we were hired, we started by asking several questions to understand the situation and gather important information. The business owner told us that he had a GPS on the company truck and the vehicle spent too many hours at the loading dock. We then developed a plan that included discreet surveillance. Our investigator followed the delivery driver daily.

Over several days, we observed the employee reporting to the loading dock, parking the truck and jumping into a woman’s car. The assigned investigator was able to determine that the unknown female was the employee’s girlfriend. We obtained video evidence, which showed the employee hanging out with his girlfriend, instead of working, and this helped us build a solid case.

Once we had sufficient proof, we presented our findings to the company. This information enabled them to take appropriate action to address the time theft. We also wrote a detailed report of our findings, which described the employee’s activities in depth, making sure that all the evidence was documented and presented in  a proper format.

In the end, we didn’t only help uncover the time theft but also helped the company make wiser hiring decisions.

Abuse of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Some employees are known to abuse the Family and Medical Leave Act, which is disruptive and costly.

At Grey Ghost, we have had cases of employees lying that they had a family emergency, only to be caught by our surveillance cameras running personal errands or being on cruises and other types of vacations.

Some employees claimed they were not feeling well, but we found them at their second jobs. As a Miami private investigator, I know how to check if your employees abuse FMLA. We use social media surveillance, conduct surveillance, and more to determine if your employees are honest about their sick leave.

Monitoring Sick Leave

I once worked on a case where an employee frequently called in sick, but found her celebrating with friends at a local event. I captured her on video and documented her activities, revealing her contradiction to what she claimed.

With this evidence, our client confronted the employee and addressed the issue. This reminds us that some employees have dishonest behaviors that negatively affect businesses’ performance.

Corruption

Corruption takes various forms, such as bribery, illegal foreign exchange, and corporate fraud. Private investigators uncover the employees who engage in this dishonest behavior, which can put the business at risk of financial loss and tarnish its reputation.

Our investigators can go undercover to discover these types of unscrupulous behavior and capture the evidence on video.

Misuse of Company’s Assets

Some employees are fond of misusing company assets, particularly vehicles. This violates a company’s policy and even leads to financial loss.

Our Miami investigators have the knowledge and skills to solve these problems and identify those who exploit company resources for personal benefit. If you suspect that your company’s assets are being misused, hire us and we will accurately and timely bring results. This will help you address this problem and even prevent it.

Abuse of Working Hours

Another problem businesses face is employees’ failure to adhere to proper work hours. Some individuals take extended breaks or even sleep while on the job, which undermines team productivity.

This behavior leads to financial loss and even reduces the morale of the other workers. As a businessperson, you need to address these habits to maintain an efficient and accountable work environment.
